Black & White
“What’s black, white, and red all over?“. Anybody else remember those classic jokes from middle school? I sure do. The answer was usually ‘a newspaper‘, but some kids really liked to get creative and make up something new. So like every normal twenty-something year old college student, I decided to pull some inspiration.
Around the beloved (or dreaded) v-day, outfits adorned with splashes of reds and pinks fill our Pinterest feeds. Don’t get me wrong, friends, I love a good, classic Valentine’s Day Outfit. I really do! But sometimes you just want to opt for something easy, simple, and neutral. Something that works for date nights and gal-pal parties alike.
black turtleneck (linked similar) | Privacy Please skirt | black over the knee boots (linked similar)
For this kind of anti-Valentine’s Day look (if we wanna call it that), I decided to opt for a black turtleneck top, a white skirt, and black over the knee boots. Simple and clean. For a pop of red, you could totally rock a red clutch or some bold red lips (my newest favorite shade is “Little Weapon” from Colourpop. It’s everything.).
Who says you can’t wear white in February? I adore this flouncy skater skirt from Privacy Please. It will be perfect for spring with a printed top and little lace up sandals, but I love it this time of year as a transition piece. I love that it feels so high quality and that it is lined (there’s nothing worse than a see through skirt. Who’s with me on that one?). I picked it up on sale in white a few months ago on Revolve, but it’s available in so many great prints.
Whether you decide to opt for a classic red, girly pink, or classic neutral outfit for Valentine’s Day, I hope you have a wonderful day tomorrow and that you spend the holiday with your loved ones! Regardless of whatever plans you may have, I think Vday is the perfect day to really celebrate those you care about. On that note, I just wanted to say that I love and appreciate you! Thank you for your constant support and for making me feel loved.
xoxo,
Mackenzie

Tee Time
Hola & happy Thursday (just had to double check what day it was, nbd). During Thanksgiving break, I had a fun little photoshoot on the golf course in one of my new favorite dresses. I totally got distracted in sharing these photos (Finals week, I’m lookin at you), but I really liked the different background. Shooting at golden hour always just adds something extra special to any OOTD photoshoot. It’s especially great for winter days where there isn’t a whole lot of sunshine and colorful flora to work with.
printed dress (size XS) | black tights | black OTK boots (linked similar) | navy choker (on sale!)
This dress is definitely more ‘tea time’ appropriate than ‘tee time’, but hey, why not? Though I would probably not wear this outfit for a round of golf, I do have to admit I’ve been wearing the heck out of this dress this past month. I actually own it in two different patterns now, and I like that’s kind of a ‘no brainer’ dress than I can throw on & go. I find the dress to be very flattering and surprisingly versatile for winter. I paired it with black tights, black over the knee boots, and a velvet choker necklace for church and dinner with my family. However, I think it would look awesome with a black leather jacket + tall booties for a night out or with a black fur coat/vest on a super chilly day. I really like the way the navy velvet choker paired with the dress (though my mom originally asked me if I was wearing a turtleneck under my dress?). I think it adds a really different, on-trend vibe.
So I officially finished my second to last semester of college (ahh!!), and I can’t wait to head home this weekend to see my fam. On Wednesday, we will be heading off to Dubai, so let me know if you have any movie/tv show/music recommendations for the mega long flight! I hope you’re having a fantastic week (and staying warm!).

Mackenzie
Blame it all on my Roots
white slip dress (linked similar) | fringe jacket | cowboy boots
Blame it all on my roots, I showed up in my boots. Almost four whole years ago, I received these gorgeous cowboy boots as a graduation present. Living in the South, cowboy boots are such an essential piece to any wardrobe. From country concerts to gamedays, cowboy boots can be such a versatile, and durable shoe that is perfect year round. These boots specifically are from ‘Old Gringo’, my very favorite cowboy boots brand. I love how unique and different these boots are. They look perfect paired with any solid, neutral dress and simple accessories. To give the look a more western feel, I added my favorite fringe jacket as well (which is so soft and warm). I can’t wait to wear fringe and boots all season!

Flower Power
Dress: Show Me Your Mumu // Necklace: Kendra Scott // Boots: Ivanka Trump (linked similar) // Bag: Rebecca Minkoff
Where the heck did February go? I can’t believe March is already here with spring break just around the corner! Crazy! Just because spring is almost here doesn’t mean you have to put away your over the knee boots just yet. Even though I go to school in the south, it is still chilly here. Though I am dying to break out the halter tops and sandals, I am still taking advantage of this crisp, but sunny, weather. I recently picked up this Show Me Your Mumu dress. I love the Kylie style because it is perfectly casual & beyond easy for everyday wear. I paired it with my favorite black OTK boots and a tassel necklace. However, I definitely plan on throwing it on with a denim jacket and sandals later this month. It could definitely be dressed up with some statement earrings and sky-high wedges as well.
Guess what, friends? I am going to Dallas this weekend! In my three years of college, I have never ‘randomly gone home’. I typically only go home for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, and Summer. Going to college ten hours away from home is so fun, but sometimes there is nothing better than a relaxing weekend at home. I also need to bring some of my winter clothes home to swap out with my spring pieces. My grandparents are going to be driving through the area, so I am hitching a ride with them all the way back to Dallas! I am so excited to see my fam & catch up on some much needed Tex-mex!
I hope that you all are having a fabulous first week of March!

Capes > Cardigans
Cape (similar) | Black Dress (c/o) | Boots (now more than half off!) | Necklace
Hello, friends! I’ve been obsessed with capes over the past months; I pretty much live in them. I use to be in love with cardigans, but lately, capes have taken over my wardrobe. They are so warm and comfy, and it’s pretty much like wearing a blanket in public. I’m a sucker for comfort. Plus, capes are just such an easy layer to throw on quickly before heading out for the day. If you go out to eat, and it’s warm in the restaurant, you can just take them off! I usually pair my capes with a simple, neutral, long sleeve dress and knee high boots. However, you could also pair them with jeans and booties for a more casual look. I’ve linked some cape suggestions below!
It’s been so incredible being back in Dallas for break. I am home for the next three weeks, so let me know if y’all have any specific posts you would like to see while I am home! This weekend, I am heading to North Carolina for Wake Forest’s bid
day, and I am so excited to finally see Winston-Salem!
Thank you so much to Taylor Nicole Photography for these gorgeous, gorgeous photos!
November Favorites
one. over the knee boots | two. duo chrome eyeshadow | three. little velvet dress | four. luxie makeup brushes | five. whispy false eyelashes (out of stock- but here is a similar pair)
Hello, hello! Sorry I have been a little behind on posting. We are currently having final exams, and I’ve been swamped with studying. I decided to take a little study break from Accounting to share a few of my favorite things from the month of november. November was such a fantastic month because I got to enjoy some much needed time with my family. It was great to finally have a week at home after six long months away, and Thanksgiving break was such a huge blessing.
Now that it is December, I decided it would be fun to share my monthly favorites this past month. I have shown most of these on my public snapchat, which you can follow at @mackenzieken. Without further ado, friends, here are some things I have been loving this past month:
When you’re 5’0 tall, it can be hard to pull off every single fashion trend. I’ve always loved sky-high suede boots, but I have been hesitant on trying them out because of my height and short legs. Over the break, I went shopping with my mom and sister in Nordstrom at North Park Mall in Dallas. I walked by these gorgeous, suede over-the-knee boots and decided to try them on just for fun. As I walked across the store to find a mirror, two different strangers approached me and told me how much they loved the boots. These boots actually were surprisingly flattering- and super comfortable. I would definitely say they fit true to size if you nervous about deciding on a size to order. I love that they are higher in the front, and that they have subtle stud embellishments. I couldn’t resist buying myself a little early Christmas present as shows are definitely my guilty pleasure. I am so obsessed with these suede boots, and I get compliments every single time that I wear them. If you are looking for the perfect pair of over-the-knee boots, especially if you are petite like me, you have to check these out!
I mentioned these stunning Moondust eyeshadows in my mini sephora haul (which you can see here). These mega-shimmery shadows have had my heart these past few weeks, and I just ordered a few more to give as gifts! There is something so special and unique about them, and I absolutely love the shade selection as well. I definitely plan on buying this little ‘build your own palette’ so I easily take my Urban Decay shadows on the go!
I had a formal a few weeks ago and was struggling finding the perfect dress. My sister found this velvet bodycon dress online for me, and I ordered it nervously. I usually opt for fit-and-flare style dresses, so bodycon dresses tend to be a little out of my comfort zone. When the dress arrived in the mail, I was so excited that it was actually flattering and the right size. I decided to order an XS, and I definitely think it does run pretty true to size. I like that it has a bodycon fit and a fun cutout at the top, but it is still a little conservative with the high neckline and long sleeves. This little velvet dress a great mix between sexy and classy, making it the perfect go-to piece for a multitude of versatile occasions. I would recommend using fashion tape if you have a larger chest because it does tend to gape open a little in the front. I enjoyed the velvet dress so much in royal blue, that I ended up purchasing it on Cyber Monday in the burgundy color (because it was half off). I wore the burgundy one last night for another Christmas formal, and I was very glad I ordered it in another color! When I really love a specific clothing piece, I always purchase it in more than one color. I really love both the royal blue and the burgundy versions of the dress, and it also comes in black too!
Luxie Beauty, a paraben and cruelty free company, reached out to me over a month ago about trying out a few of their new makeup brushes. I do get sent productions to try out pretty frequently, but I only mention the ones that I actually do really, really love. I always give y’all an honest opinion on what I think about each product. Luxie sent me five different brushes from their new Luxury collection called ‘Onyx Noir’. In addition, they did send me a few eyeshadows, but I did not love them as much as I do the other eyeshadows in my collection. I’ve been trying out these Onyx Noir brushes for several weeks now, and I can honestly say that I really enjoy them (and prefer them over my MAC brushes). My very favorite brush is the Tapered Highlighter Face Brush. I love to apply my MAC ‘Soft & Gentle’ highlighter with it! I also really enjoy the Tapered Face Makeup Brush. I use it to apply setting powder and blush. It reminds me a lot of my MAC 150 brush. I actually prefer the Luxie Tapered Face brush over the MAC 150 because the Luxie brush doesn’t shed whatsoever. The MAC 150 sheds like crazy, and I find myself never reaching for it anymore. Also, the Luxie brush is cheaper as well! If you’re looking for a new makeup brush brand to check out (that’s also cruelty free), definitely check out LuxieBeauty. (P.S. You can use the code ‘mackenzieken’ to get a discount on these fabulous Onyx Noir brushes).
I was unfortunately not blessed with dark, long, or voluminous lashes. But I can definitely fake it with the help of some glam false eyelashes. False eyelashes can be intimating at first, but it definitely helps to watch youtube tutorials and practice. You’ll get the hang of applying them before you know it! I find that they make any makeup look pop and really open up the eyes. After trying tons of different styles and brands, I’ve really fallen in love with the whispy stye of false lashes. I’ve been obsessed with these affordable whispy eyelashes from Walmart. I picked them up on a whim when I saw them labeled with a sticker that said ‘blogger favorite’. They are reusable too, which is great because you can get tons of uses of out them. They are currently sold out online, but they are available in Walmart stores. In addition, I love Ardell ‘Whispies’. You can get them at any drugstore or Ulta, and they look so glamorous, but still natural. I recommend applying false eyelashes with Duo glue. It’s my very favorite, and I find that works very well (while still being very affordable)! If you love false lashes, let me know what your specific favorites are!
I decided to narrow down my favorites to five for the month of November. Some other things I loved this month included the Soapy South Wash House ‘Charcoal Facial Detox Soap‘ and ‘Shave Soap Tablet‘, Neutrogena Triple Age Repair Moisture with SPF 25, Milani Lipgloss in the shade ‘Nude Touch‘, and Chi Silk Infusion. I thought all of these products were awesome and are all things I would definitely repurchase in the future!
I hope you all are having a fabulous weekend so far! Let me know what your favorite things were during the month of November!
Falling For Fringe
Romper | Boots | Vest (linked similar) | Bralette | Lipstick
There is something so fun and exciting about fringe. It has a way of adding something unique to any fall outfit. I paired this tan fringe vest from the Blue Door Boutique with a burnt orange romper and my favorite cowboy boots. I fell in love with these gorgeous boots back in high school, and they have been one of my fall staples over the past few years! To also add another touch of fall to the outfit, I added my new favorite lipstick in the shade ‘Rebel’. It’s a really bold shade, but I think it would really suit a variety of skin tones.
I am going to start getting on a schedule of posting every Tuesday and Thursday now that I finally have a pretty stable routine. Thank you so much to my lovely friend, Layne, for taking these photos! I have so much fun shooting with you (and getting super excited over fab lighting).
Hope you all are having a fabulous Tuesday!
